Project Overview

A homeowner in Downtown Burbank needed to replace the property’s existing water heaters while maintaining enough hot water for the household’s higher demand.

Burbank Plumbing replaced the existing system with two matching Rheem Performance Platinum gas water heaters. The project also included updated water and gas connections, a thermal expansion tank, new venting connections, and additional support and safety components.

Planning the Replacement

Before the installation, our plumber assessed the existing water heaters, plumbing connections, gas supply, venting, and available space.

Because the property required higher hot water capacity, two matching tank-type gas water heaters were selected for the replacement. The units were installed side by side within the existing setup.

The Work

Removing the Existing Water Heaters

The existing water heaters were safely disconnected and removed to prepare the area for the new equipment.

The installation area was then prepared for the replacement units, including the necessary plumbing and gas connections.

Installing the New Water Heaters

Two Rheem Performance Platinum tank-type gas water heaters were installed side by side.

The matching units were connected to the home’s plumbing system and positioned to provide the required hot water capacity.

Updating the Plumbing and Gas Connections

The hot and cold water supply lines were re-piped in copper to connect the new water heaters.

A thermal expansion tank was also installed to help manage pressure changes in the plumbing system.

New gas shut-off valves and flexible gas connectors were installed for the two water heaters, with the connections secured and checked after installation.

Completing the Venting and Safety Components

The venting for both water heaters was connected and checked as part of the installation.

Both units were secured with seismic strapping and appropriate support hardware. Individual drip pans with drainage provisions were also installed beneath the water heaters.

The Result

The existing water heating system was replaced with two matching Rheem Performance Platinum gas water heaters designed to meet the property’s higher hot water demand.

The updated installation includes new water and gas connections, a thermal expansion tank, connected venting, and additional support and safety components.

Once the installation was complete, the system was tested and the connections were checked to make sure everything was operating properly.
